FAMOUS HORSE QUOTES
Speak your mind, but ride a fast horse. ~ Anonymous
Trust in God, but tie your horse. ~ Anonymous
Horses are so forgiving. ~ Tom Dorrance
To see the wind's power, the rain's cleansing and the sun's radiant life, one need only to look at the horse.

Winter Care
-
Horses should be dewormed every 60 days no
matter what the season.
-
Vaccinations
should be given for influenza and rhinopneumonitis.
- Provide Fresh Water
- Feed high quality feeds on a regular schedule and ensure adequate water intake by checking a horses water source twice daily.
-
If a horses
flank appears drawn up they may not be getting adequate water. Performing a pinch test on the neck gives an
assessment of body fluid level. Grasp a
fold of skin between the thumb and forefinger.
Raise it above the muscle for one second and the let go. It should return to its flattened position on
the neck within a second or two. A cœstanding tent of a longer duration indicates dehydration.
-
Feeding grain
will not appreciably increase a horses body warmth, feeding increased roughage
will. The head of digestion is greater
and lasts longer from hay than from concentrates.
- Because of winter snows and sunny thaws feed can spoil easily. Damp hay, pellets or grain can become fermented or moldy in a matter of a few hours in the sun. Offer the amount of feed that will be cleaned up during feeding.

Everyone is encouraged to attend our monthly meetings held at the RUC Arena at 6:30 PM on the 1st Tuesday of each month during the Spring/Summer and at the Chase Community Center during the Fall/Winter! This is a great way to voice your opinions and suggestions. Member participation is highly encouraged!
Annual Barn Cleaning
A healthy horse barn is a well ventilated barn which means that windows and doors are often open. This can result in the breezes carrying in fine dirt which settles on almost everything in the barn. If you store hay in your horse barn, you'll find no matter how clean the hay is, it does bring in some field dirt and dust which becomes airborne as you feed. Bedding also varies in how much particulate matter it puts in the air. The end result means you should perform a thorough annual barn cleaning to remove dust and dirt in order to protect your horses’ respiratory systems.

When your horse follows you without
being asked, when he rubs his head on yours, and when you look at him and feel
a tingle down your spine...you know you are loved.

New Year's Wishes to all:
May you get a clean bill
of health from your dentist, your cardiologist, your gastro-enterologist, your
urologist, your proctologist, your podiatrist, your psychiatrist, your plumber
and the I.R.S. May your hair, your
teeth, your face-lift, your abs and your stocks not fall; and may your blood
pressure, your triglycerides, your cholesterol, your white blood count and your
mortgage interest not rise.
May New Year's Eve find you seated around the table, together with your beloved
family and cherished friends. May you find the food better, the environment
quieter, the cost much cheaper, and the pleasure more fulfilling than anything
else you might ordinarily do that night.
May what you see in the mirror delight you, and what others see in you
delight them. May someone love you enough to forgive your faults, be blind to
your blemishes, and tell the world about your virtues.
May the telemarketers wait to make their sales calls until you finish dinner,
may the commercials on TV not be louder than the program you have been
watching, and may your check book and your budget balance - and include
generous amounts for charity. May you remember to say "I love you" at
least once a day to your spouse, your child, your parent, and your siblings;
but not to your secretary, your nurse, your masseuse, your hairdresser or your
tennis instructor. And may we live in a world at peace and with the awareness
of God's love in every sunset, every flower's unfolding petals, every baby's
smile, every lover's kiss, and every wonderful, astonishing, miraculous beat of
our heart.
Wishing You The
Best In 2012.
